Photoshop Phriday: Chris Perry
In some of the past few Photoshop Phriday posts I’ve highlighted the…difficulty…with which Michigan has recently run the ball. So let’s hop back a little more than a decade and look at Chris Perry. Perry was a Michigan RB from 2000-03 and the lead back in 2002 and 2003. His freshman year he was backup to well known RB Anthony ‘A-Train’ Thomas. However Perry did plenty in his final two years to make a name for himself and be rewarded with a 1st round NFL draft pick in 2004. Ultimately injuries would plague a four year pro career with the Bengals, only seeing significant playing time in two of those years.
But let’s return to his accomplishments at Michigan. His 338 carries for 1,674 yards in 2003 earned him the Doak Walker Award, given to the nation’s top RB. He averaged 26 carries per game that year but had almost double that in Michigan’s 2003 win over MSU. John Navarre handed the ball off to Perry a staggering 51 times that game, which he turned into 219 yards of offense. For some perspective, in the last two years Michigan has 55 rushes against MSU for 13 yards (plagued by a -48 yard effort in 2013). In addition to being a top back Perry also developed a distinguished palate in college, as this photo shows his clear love for wheat rye sourdough with caraway and coriander.
