Photoshop Phriday: Elvis Grbac

Have you ever noticed that there are certain names that seem fit for different sports?  Butch Jones in my mind could be associated with no sport besides football, the same way when I watched him mash homers in high school I knew that Matt Sweeney had a great baseball name.  While at an Angel’s vs. A’s game in 2011 my dad and I were having a discussion about how Conor Jackson sounded more like a lacrosse name rather than a baseball name.  He promptly hit a grand slam to shut us up.

My point with this is to say that while I don’t think of Elvis Grbac as a great football name (though to be sure it is an amazing name in general), he was an important factor on the Michigan football team from 1989 to 1992.  Grbac played 12 games for four years in a row at Michigan, with his junior season in 1991 being his top year for passing yards, completions, and touchdowns.  Desmond Howard, who won Heisman Trophy that year, was often on the other end of those passes.  Perhaps none are more famous than the .  Grbac and Howard went to the same high school too, where they no doubt spent lots of time throwing around Grbac’s favorite double chocolate sourdough loaf.
