One of my favorite Parks and Rec episodes includes a burger contest between Ron and Chris, which also shows Ron’s visit to ‘Food ‘N Stuff’. Ron’s winning entry is ‘a hamburger made out of meat on a bun with nothing’. I’d like to think my burgers fall somewhere in between.

There are few things I lovemore than bad puns. Despite challah’s overuse in such capacities, I couldn’t help myself when titling this post. Challah was one of the first breads I made when I started branching out from pizza dough a few years ago. The recipe seemed easy to follow and the bread itself was […]

Ciabatta Revisited
Nov 19, 2012
Last week I posted about the hot pepper ciabatta I made. The recipe is from Peter Reinhart’s ciabatta recipe, but I had to add far more flour than I would have liked due to an inability to work with such a wet dough (and shaped it differently). Well, the marble slab I ordered came in […]

Hot Pepper Ciabatta

Two weeks ago I went to the Ann Arbor Farmer’s Market in search of breakfast. There’s a vendor who sells all types of incredible bread including these bread twists that come in all sorts of delicious flavors, my personal favorite being garlic/red pepper. They unfortunately were out by the time I got there but as […]

Molasses Farm Bread

Each fall I am reminded of the strange affinity I have for scooping out the insides of pumpkins. Maybe it’s because my favorite Calvin and Hobbes comic strip was about it. It also probably has something to do with the fact that I vividly remember carving pumpkins on my birthday growing up, which happens to […]

Chocolate Brioche
Sep 25, 2012
Several weeks ago I was searching for something sweet to make in lieu of a cake for my girlfriend’s birthday and came across a recipe for chocolate brioche. Well, not so much brioche in the traditional shape, but more a brioche-like dough layered with chocolate and then baked in muffin tins. You can see why […]

English Muffins: Nooks and Crannies Worth the Wait
Sep 10, 2012
After more than a month long hiatus, I am finally getting back to blogging. Several weeks ago I saw a recipe for English muffins I wanted to try, and figured it would be fitting to make them during the Olympics. Like the rest of the world I became fascinated with everything Olympics for two weeks, […]

After a two week hiatus due to vacations and enduring heat that felt like I was in Dante’s 7th circle of Hell, I am slowly easing back into cooking things. I pretty much just ate salad, sandwiches, and cereal the past few days, which I am totally fine with. I was inspired reading a post […]

And Managers Jack, Get 10%
Jun 29, 2012
When it comes to baking, percentages and amounts are important. There is a reason that recipe you found says to use 1.5 teaspoons of yeast. Not 1, not 3, not “that looks like it would be enough”, but 1.5 teaspoons. That being said, based on your kitchen’s conditions sometimes things might need to be adjusted. […]

Britta’s Bagels

First off, a former tour guide extraordinaire I worked with and current baking/pastry master of deliciousness is gearing up to start pastry school. You can definitely look forward to lots of good posts from her in the future over at ARoseBakes. Last week as I took the last quarter of my sourdough loaf out of the freezer […]
